Well, this week I’m entering my ‘golden years’. I am no longer green (naive), and I don’t feel blue (sad) about turning sixty years old. Hey, I’ve lived this long and I’m looking forward to the next sixty years.
In Japan, when people turn sixty they wear red clothing. I’m not sure why. In Western countries, when older people wear red, it usually means they are trying to look younger than they are. I’ve been wearing red t-shirts and polo shirts for a long time, so if I wear red now - to try and look younger than I am - the only people who will notice are the people who haven’t met me before.
What’s your colour? Being a boy (guy, man) I’ve been told that blue is my colour. You know, when we are children we are told that blue is for boys and pink is for girls. When I look around me I think I’m moving to the left of the colour spectrum.
In English, when we think of the major colours we have an acronym; ROY G BIV. When I was a boy and blue was my colour I was close to the right side of the spectrum, and since I’m moving left I should be at the extreme left of the spectrum, a sixty-year-old red lover.
However, when I look round my home and look at the colours I have chosen for my curtains and my bedding, it seems that I am more earthy. I have yellow curtains and a yellow table cloth. The sofa and the dining suite are ivory. Even my guitar is a light ash wood colour.
Maybe you are not yellow with envy at my choice of home tones, but you can understand that the colours we choose tell us about what kind of people we are. If I am yellow, then I’m a sunny guy!

I remember that when I was elementary student, one my teachers who was over 50 maybe said that "My mother told me that wearing red clothes looks younger. So since then, I often wear red clothes."
ReplyDeleteIn my case, I have a gray sofa, a white desk and a shelf, a wooden side table, pink bedding and colorful curtains with red, yellow, pink, purple, green...
Maybe my room theme is Hawaiian;)

Your room is definitely not Kansai Japanese! Hey, Hawaii is a great place with wonderful memories for you. If those colours are in your room, you're going to be OK. When will you start playing the ukulele and doing hula dancing? ;-)
I've never had an item with leopard pattern! What do you think Kansai people rooms look like? I guess there are so many primary colored items such as red or yellow.
ReplyDeleteI've once tried hula when I joined summer school program in Hawaii, but its movement was too slow so I don' like it.
I really love palm trees, hibiscus, sea, sunrise, and sunset.
(Now I'm using macbook and palm trees are printed in my keyboard cover:))
I'm not sure what Kansai rooms look lie, but I can assume they are similar to Kanto rooms, only a little further south ;-)
DeleteBy the way, Happy Birthday! I can imagine you are having a birthday party wearing a red suit.
ReplyDeleteThank you Reiko. I had a really nice party last night and even had a cake with my face on it. See you tomorrow at school.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Wayne! I wish you'll be a man who live longest in the world! In my childhood around 4 years old , I usually wear blue or purple one-piece so I like blue now. And my good friend who likes green and yellow influenced me very much, now I like both color too. I read one site about color psychology. The site said that People who like green needs more relax time! Should I have to be relaxing? I should tell that my teachers! To tell you the truth, I forgot about yellow ;( Please search!

DeleteWhen I look at you, you look like a light green person. Calm and natural. Maybe you need to relax more... her, we all need to relax more!
Many happy returns of the day. How did you spend your birthday?
ReplyDeleteMy room is mainly yellow color. I think the image of room changes by curtains. I like yellow because I can feel happy. But, I sometimes feel too bright. I like green, too. I want to relax much time in my room. I'll try to redecorate my room.
Thanks Yui. I had a party with my friends and drank until late, I too a day off yesterday ;-)

I agree Yui. When the curtains are drawn the room image does change. My yellow curtains in the living area are only drawn in the evening, and so the yellow blends with the room lighting. It's nice to listen to music in the evening in my yellow and ivory coloured room.
